Frontier Reserve is our most elevated American buffalo hide. A full winter coat that runs up to seven inches deep, hand-selected for a feel that's immediately different. Dense, warm, and deeply soft to the touch, with a natural ombre that runs from near-black at the edges through deep brown, sometimes lightening to blonde along the spine. The kind of texture you instinctively reach for, because it feels that good.

How It Lives

Reserve is made to live with you. It elevates a sofa in one move. It transforms a bed into something layered and grounded, spread across it like a blanket. It can be worn in the traditional robe-style way, and the leather is soft and clean enough for garments and jackets. And spread on the floor as a statement rug, it brings warmth and presence into a room without losing that comfort-forward feel.

The Tanning

Only a small share of hides are good enough to sell whole. Thin coats, patches, and heavy scarring are cut for upholstery leather instead. What's left is the hide you're looking at.

Every hide is American sourced and vegetable tanned in the United States by a single artisan over 10 to 15 hours. Plant-based tannins and time, not the chrome or alum tanning most buffalo hides sold online are made with. Chrome tanning is faster, and it shows in the hand. Ours comes out cleaner, softer, and made to be kept for decades. The suede side is left just as the tannery finished it, oiled and untreated.

Every Hide Is One of One

Photos show hides from the same grade, tannery, and finish as the one you'll receive, shot in natural light. Each hide is one of one. Color ranges from hide to hide, and the markings and the occasional healed scar or brand are part of the animal's story.

The coat also carries the texture of a real animal. You may find areas where the fur bunches, curls, or lies matted, most often along the spine or where the hide is densest. These relax with time and brush out.

If it's not right in your space, you have 14 days from delivery to send an unused hide back. We'll email you a prepaid label and deduct the cost from your refund.
